Secret Diaries…..

whats behind the wrapper?

This week has been a little hectic to say the least, but then they all are at the moment.  Settling in to the wonders of domestic life and keeping up with the chores is taking a lot of my time and energy so when I do have free time I have a tendency to want to sit and do nothing.  The brain cells are firing a bit more creatively though, a lot of ideas for short stories and god knows what else are flying around my head.  Most of this creative burst comes in the car on the way to work which is frustrating as I am of course not in a position to actually do any when driving.

The difficulty with being a part time writer/blogger/whatever term you choose to describe yourself is that you can never predict when the ideas are going to appear.  Not having the freedom to write full time causes a huge amount of frustration when the ideas are there but the time isn’t available to get them down on paper.  I’d imagine this frustration is probably quite reversed for a full-time writer with the ideas having to be forced from an overworked imagination on some occasions.

I’m working on getting myself some more time to write and I’m also probably going to make a serious attempt at getting a job which allows me to spend my time ,  no idea how much chance I’ve got but its got to be worth a try.

With March creeping to a close you’ll (hopefully) see a lot more appearing on here next month, my plan is to take part in NaBloPoMo something which I’ve tried before and failed at but this was during my massive creative drought so I should be a lot more successful.  Until then I’ll continue trying to produce at least one post a week on whatever topic comes to mind.

The massive post cull which recently took place on this site is an attempt at adding some direction to proceedings, from now on this site will try to give an insight into the daily lives of those who contribute and hopefully some hints and tips to those who are following the ‘same’ path.

As the new title suggests, most entries will be ‘ of a….’ affairs talking about some aspect of the daily life of the author, you’ll also find occasional hints, tips and useful site links sprinkled about the place.  There should be a minimum of 1 article a week published on a Friday but there are very likely to be other pieces published throughout the working week.

Keep watching this space, hopefully the will improve if nothing else!

JosiahB is a mid-twenties IT from just north of London, his credits outside of this site are pratically non-existent (a problem he intends to resolve in the next few months).

His current projects are a series of articles on the various challenges inherent in turning from half arsed in to making side project, a novel based on the experiences of a number of IT support professionals, and an incredibly secret third project which may even be hiding from his own brain.

OK….  So its been a while.  Again.

Since the end of August I’ve been busy though, and so has this sites other contributor who has gone from being a trainee teacher to an NQT in her first full time job with Ofsted showing up to inspect the school with very little notice.  We’ve moved into our own little pad and are currently surrounded by cardboard boxes as we try and organise to look like a home rather than a warehouse.

But thats not what your here for, if you’ve stumbled across this it’ll likely be because of the word ‘IT ’ in the subject line so my home and love life will be as interesting to you as watching paint dry (unless thats how you get your kicks of course).  Lets get down to it, the life of an IT is periods of intense boredom followed by extreme pressure and a jobs list full o f criticals (a lot like life generally) the trick as a good is to make sure you can deal with the criticals efficiently with minimal impact to your users.

Having difficulty this, largely because the majority of IT support stories have already been told elsewhere. The truth is most of the problems any IT has to deal with on a day to day basis are down to a lack of user education, that’s why you see so many ‘hilarious’ user error tales all over the place. IT departments suffer from incredible difficulty when it comes to educating users because there is not often the time to steal staff away from their desks for the purposes of education.

I love poetry and used to do it loads for fun. I didn’t think I was any good at it, it was just something I liked to do. However at as part of my course we have started to look at using creative English in the classroom and we have been looking at poetry as well as narrative, every day and factual . I decided it must be good for people (and me) to get into expressing your ideas or emotions through poetry (in my case this is good as I can stop getting it off my chest every time my poor is talking to me on the phone!). So below is my poem from today. The topic was on the harvest and harvest festival in schools, so here is my poem (make of it what you will)! continue reading…

Secret Diaries exists as a way to ‘let it all out’ a place where everyone is equal in their desire to just say what they think and what they feel.  Whether it be careers or love life, professional or social.  So far so what right?  If your looking for big exposes or hard hitting discussion your looking in the wrong place.  You’ll find those who contribute here are more likely to  veer wildly from excessive ranting to excessive humour in the space of the same sentence, none of it means much but it might, just might reveal something of the human condition or some insight into particular careers or lifestyle choices (probably by accident).

The very nature of the web and the blogosphere makes places like this all too common I know, usually filled with teenagers ranting about how oppresive their parents are or what they to consider to be ‘random’ thoughts.  We’ll avoid that and try and at least give you something worth reading every now and then.

There is no high and mighty purpose to any of this, but it is a marvellous way to relax.
